At the beginning of the new semester, good news has reached the College thatthe students of the Department of French did extremely well in the CollegeFrench Test (Band 4) with a pass rate of 35 percent, a breakthrough in thehistory of the Department of French. When reviewing the work, the teachers ofthe Department of French said: “it is vital to teach students how to become auseful social man before imparting knowledge to students. Likewise, developingstudents’ desired moral ethics should be above cultivating studentsintellectually. Therefore, teachers should bear in mind that they should letstudents become aware of their sense of mission by referring to socialobligation and goal of career. We should also keep encouraging our students toadvance by citing the examples of our successful students. Only by doing so canwe yield twice the result with half of the efforts.  

In the past year, the Department of French arrangedstudents who had had an opportunity to study at Fu Dan University and to attendthe intensive training course by Health Bureau of Shanghai Municipal People’sGovernment to pass on their own experience to other students. Moreover, theDepartment
