On March, 24, 2014, ProfessorLiu Dailin Visiting SICFL, Director of

Department of Education inHigher Technical & Vocational Colleges of Foreign Language TeachingGuidance Committee, visited SICFL. During the visit, Professor Liu described indetail the work that the Committee was doing.

PresidentZhu Yixin and Vice President Zhu Shichang met with Professor Liu and discussedthe issues of mutual concern. Afterwards, Professor Liu held discussions withDeans of Departments of Foreign Languages. Shanghai Industry & CommerceForeign Language College adhered to the guiding principle of “laying a solidfoundation of foreign languages, giving a top priority to the training ofstudents’ listening and speaking abilities, requiring students to takeexaminations for language and professional certificates and attachingimportance to the ability of application and has achieved a great deal in itseducational reform. SICFL has undertaken the construction of “Five Key Programsand Sven Excellent Courses” by Shanghai Municipal Educational Commission, has gotFive Teaching Achievement Award at the Municipal Level. The students from SICFLhave won many top prizes in various kinds of contests and competitions and theemployment rate for the language students ranks the top among the Colleges ofthe same kind.

Professor Liu spoke highly ofthe endeavor that SICFL had made in hosting Foreign Language Culture Festivaland the Festival for Students to Practice Their Skills of Application, both ofwhich were of great significance in enhancing students’ ability to apply whatthey had learned. She also praised highly the courses that SICFL had introducedwith regard to the education of students’ general knowledge, believing thatthese courses would help to enhance the general quality of the students.

Professor Liu described indetail the major points of the work for the Committee for this year. She saidthat for the Public English teaching, we should pay attention to the trainingof students’ ability to apply English within the context of workplaces. “Forthe English major, we should follow the principle of “taking the training ofthe students’ ability as the core task, enhancing students’ practical abilitywithin the context of workplaces and relying on the practice as the majorapproach to develop students’ ability of application”, said Professor Liu.Efforts should also be made to facilitate the communication and exchange of theexperience in teaching foreign language among technical & vocationalinstitutions of higher learning.

Accompaniedby leading personnel of SICFL, Professor Liu also visited “Fu Lei’s Life Gallery” and “Sino-Korean Culture& Communication Historical Material Gallery”, which left a very deepimpression on her. She spoke very highly of the endeavor that SICFL had made inbuilding campus culture and the progress that SICFL had made in enhancing andimproving students’ general quality.
